Northampton General Hospital gleans £33,000 of silver by recycling x-ray film
If you have a need for silver, the people at Northampton General Hospital may have an answer for you. In one year they have been able to recycle used xray film to harvest 62kg of silver, which currently is worth £33,000.
Because of this out of the box thinking the hospital won an Investors in the Environment Awards for ‘Overall Outstanding Achiever’.
The judges of the award also congratulated the Hospital for achieving things such as.
- Recycling 285 inhalers
- Recycling 110 tonnes of cardboard, 20 tonnes of metal, 30 tonnes of domestic recycling and glass.
- Reducing energy use by 5.5% and reducing co2 emissions by over 12%
- Recycling 29,000 Christmas cards
- Reducing the amount of paper used by over half a millions sheets
